Music of the
Klezmorim (Hebr: musicians)
enchanted us, it is written
in
the landscape of small towns
and
Carpathian villages of 19th and 20th c.
This music once sound in Hucul weddings,
Bukovina’s inns, in Galician fairs,
in Jewish homes, even in the aristocratic salons.
It
extolled us with its simplicity, as well as,
masterly form, mosaic of styles and motives
of
Carpathian cultures.
Many
outstanding Klezmers of Carpathian
origin
performed music of mastery and real charm.
Leon
Schwartz, violin virtuoso, born in Karapcziw
in
Ukrainian Bukovina, and genius of ‘tsimbl’ (cimbalom,
hammered
dulcimer) Joseph Moskowitz, born in Galatia,
at
the foot of Romanian Carpathians, were two of them
We
draw inspiration and musical wisdom from the sparse archival
recordings of the concerts and from few of other records and
scores of music performed by Klezmer bands and folk Romanian,
Polish and Ukrainian musicians.
We
travel from old to modern, attempting to combine them
stylistically in our way.
Similarly as once Klezmer musicians combined the Jewish and
elements from other musical cultures.
In
the place where the Earth touches the sky. Such a flight.
